What is a Phone Charging Station?

A Charging Station is any hardware device used to recharge battery cells used to store electricity and power equipment. Charging stations can be used to restore power to batteries located in electric vehicles, cell phones, laptop computers, tablets and small appliances. The primary considerations on a charging station are connectors and the flow of electricity. Connectors must be suitable for the devices you are seeking to recharge. For cell phones, the most common connectors are Micro USB, Apple lightning, USB-C, and Qi wireless charging pads. Charging stations may also only provide an AC and/or USB output and no cords and connectors which would require the user to have their own cord. Charging stations are most frequently found in public spaces, including waiting rooms of hospitals, schools, airports, hotels and events.

What is the difference between Amps, Volts and Watts?

If we think of electricity as water flowing through a pipe it can help us understand amps, volts and watts. Amps would be the volume of water flowing through the pipe. The water pressure would be the voltage. Watts would be the power (volts x amps) the water could provide (think back to the old days when water was used to power mills). This is important because we would not want to use a charging station to harm the device. Electricity is the flow (like water) of electrons through a conductor like a wire. The rate at which electricity flows is measured as an electric current. The electric current is measured in amps. What makes the current flow? In our water analogy we could say a battery would be the pump that makes the water flow which creates pressure in the pipe. The pressure is the voltage. And as we said before the watts are the power the water could provide (like to a mill wheel). The watt is a measure of how much power is released each second.
